Hilary Rosen’s Apology Was Unnecessary

Everyone seems to be getting their knickers in a twist over Hilary Rosen’s comments last week.  Her statement that Ann Romney “has actually never worked a day in her life,” was likely somewhat incorrect, and probably should have been qualified by saying that she “has actually never worked outside the home a day in her life.”

However, whether or not a stay-at-home mom works isn’t the issue.  What is the issue, and what Ms. Rosen was speaking to, was that for Mitt Romney to consult his wife on women’s economic issues was laughable.  Her privileged position as the wife of a multi-millionaire doesn’t exactly put her in the middle of the current economy.  Better that Mr. Romney should talk to women who both care for their families and hold down jobs in a world that generally doesn't make single-income families economically possible.

It's time to calm down over this, please.
